The Department of Computer Science and Applications conducted a
National Level Workshop on Research Methodology and Data
Analysis using ‘R’ on February 10th and 11th
2017. Fifty One Participants from our department and outside
colleges took part in the Workshop.
Day-1: February 11th, 2017 (Friday) was
started with Prayer and Lightning of Kutthuvillakku.
A warm welcome address was given by Prof.Dr.S.Rajalakshmi, Head,
Department of CSA. Felicitation Address was given by
Prof.Dr.S.Balaji, Dean, Faculty of Science, SCSVMV University.
Keynote Address was given by Prof.Dr.G.Zayaraz, Professor and
Associated Dean, Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry.
Vote of Thanks was given by Dr.N.R.Ananthanarayanan , Associate
Professor, Department of CSA.
Session -1
was handled by Prof.Dr.G.Zayaraz, Professor and Associated Dean
of Pondicheery Engineering College who delivered a talk on
Internet of Things and Data Analytics. He opined that the
concept of Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Analytics (Data
Science for IoT) is expected to drive the future business
models. He talked on Big
Data and the challenges of handling data in terms of speed,
volume and variety. Examining large amount of data would be
appropriate to handle information and also to identify the
hidden patterns.
Session-2 was
handled by Prof.R.Chandrasekaran,Associate Professor[Retd],
Department of Statistics, Madras Christian College ,Chennai. He
delivered a talk on research methods with a systematic approach
consisting of problem statement, formulating hypothesis,
collecting data and analyzing the facts and reaching certain
conclusion either in the form of solutions towards the concerned
problem or in certain generalizations for some theoretical
formulation. He mentioned about the objectives and motivation of
research and its experimental results.
Day-2: February 12th, 2017 (Saturday)
was devoted to ‘R’ programming which was handled by
Dr.R.Vishnu Vardhan Asst. Professor, Department of Statistics,
Pondicherry University. The session started with the
introduction to ‘R’ programming followed by using ‘R’ for
Principal Component Analysis, Cluster Analysis and Discriminate
Analysis. At the end of the session the valedictory function was
held. The Chief Guest Dr.R.VishnuVardhan gave away Certificates
to the participants. This was followed by a feedback session in
which participants gave feedback on the workshop. Dr.V.Ramesh,
Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and
Applications (CSA) gave vote of thanks. The programme concluded
with National Anthem. |
